On our way to Lake Mead we stopped for some lunch and this monument was at our stop that honored all the branches of the Armed Forces. Then we drove through miles and miles of dessert so I was thinking that the campground was in the middle of nowhere. We needed to get some items from the store so  we were directed in the opposite direction from where we came in and about a mile from the park gate was civilization!

 Lake Mead

We arrived at the campground, which turned out to be a privately owned trailer park with RV sites. It was really pretty and overlooked Lake Mead. It even had street names. We were on 8th street and site number 809. It was another end site which gave us more room than the other sites. God keeps blessing us with great camp sites.

The view from our campsite

Jim, along with Steve, Donna, and Parker enjoying the sunshine.

Watching the sun set and....

....the moon rise

Then the sun rise...

...and the moon set.

In the morning we decided to take a ride to the beach. From the camp site it looks pretty close but it was quite a ways away.

It was a very rocky beach but the water was crystal clear.

View of Lake Mead from the highway.

We then took a ride to see the Hoover Dam. At the gate we got preferential treatment. Because we were in the truck and the bed of the truck is full of things that we need for our trip we were asked to pull over to the side. Then Jim had to go inside the truck and open every single box and show them what was inside each box. But, I would rather they take these types of precautions then be lax.

Because of COVID they were not giving any tours of the dam be we were allowed to drive over the dam and park in AZ and then walk back over the dam to take pictures.

Because of the lack of rain and a higher demand for water the last time any water went over these spillways was in 1983.

Intakes

Mighty big dam!

Jim enjoying the view.

Half way across the dam is the border between Nevada and Arizona. I'm standing in NV and Jim is standing in AZ.

This is the Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. It was opened on October 19, 2010 to allow traffic to go from NV to AZ. Before the bridge was built all traffic went over the dam.

After our trip to the dam we drove into Henderson and met with some good friends formerly from Tunkhannock. We had an enjoyable visit with the Seviors.

Each evening at the campsite we sat and waited for the stars to come out. While we waited we watched all the planes flying in and out of the Las Vega airport. I can now understand why some people believe they have seen UFOs. There were planes coming straight at us so it looked like a bright light hovering in the sky. As other planes came in closer behind them and turned on their landing lights it looked as if the front UFO split into two ships and sometimes three. It was fascinating to watch. There are a lot of planes flying in and out of the airport.

Now onto California or Bust!
